TUAN VAN NGUYEN, Ph.D.

Dr. Tuan Nguyen came to Australia in 1982. He received the bachelor, masters, and doctoral degrees in industrial engineering, mathematics, and applied statistics, respectively. He held various positions in academic and industrial sectors. Currently, he is a Sr. research scientist at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research (Sydney), specialising in genetic epidemiological research of osteoporosis and bone disease.

Dr. Nguyen is the author/co-author of more than 50 scientific papers which were published in many well-known international journals, such as Nature, New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, Annals of Internal Medicine, American Journal of Epidemiology, British Medical Journal, and Journal of Bone and Mineral Research. As an invited speaker, he gave lectures on genetics of osteoporosis at many conferences in the US. He also served as an occasional reviewer/assessor of research grants for the World Health Organisation and some scientific journals. He is also an active community worker in the Vietnamese community in Australia, where he formed the Vietnamese Mathematical Hobby Club, which involves in training young and talented Vietnamese students in Australia.
